Below is the contunuation on: What is Costa Rican Coffee?

 Origins and History of coffee.

Coffee growing originated in high altitude lands, above 1000 meters (3500 feet) above sea level in Ethiopia, Sudan and Africa.

Somewhere between the years 575 and 890, the Persians and Arabs brought it to Arabia and Yemen, and the African natives to Mozambique and Madagascar.

Between the years 1600 and 1700 it was brought to Ceilan, now Sri Lanka, then to Java and India, as well as other regions of Asia and Africa by the Dutch and Portuguese people.

In the year 1708, the Governor of Java, Von Horn, took a few plants to Holland, from which he gave one to French King, Louis XVI, as a gift, a gift that was planted in Paris.

Around 1727 coffee was brought from Sumatra to Brazil, passing then to Peru and Paraguay and in 1825 to Hawaii.

As the plants in Paris multiplied, they were brought to French Guyana, Equatorial French Africa, Haiti and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic); from there it extended to Puerto Rico, to El Salvador in 1740, to Guatemala in 1750, and as stated earlier to Costa Rica between the years 1796 and 1798, proceeding from Cuba.
