Kidney Transplant Medication - myfortic

This site contains information about myfortic and kidney transplants for patients

myfortic is a drug specially designed for people who have had a kidney transplant. Because your transplanted kidney did not come from your own body, your immune system will recognize your new kidney as something foreign and thus a threat to your health. In fact, your immune system will treat your kidney as if it were a virus or bacteria—and will try to attack it or reject it. To keep your immune system from rejecting your new kidney, medications such as myfortic are necessary to slow down or suppress your immune system, preventing it from reacting to your kidney and allowing your kidney to be accepted as a healthy part of your body.

myfortic is an enteric-coated formulation of mycophenolic acid (MPA) in a delayed-release tablet. That means the coating on the tablet keeps it from dissolving in your stomach right after you take it. The active ingredient, MPA, is not released until it leaves your stomach and reaches your small intestine.
