Just Harvest Wraps Up Another Successful Tax Season!
Just Harvest had a record-setting tax season, completing tax returns for 1,635 households who shared more than $2.9 million in refunds. Thanks to all our partners, tax preparers, and volunteers!
New Board Members Elected
Just Harvest held its annual membership on Tuesday, May 5 and elected the following board members to two-year terms:
Re-elected were Mary Elizabeth McCathy, Mike Stout, DeWitt Walton, and John Becker.
New board members elected were Kathleen Sheehan, Fran Gruden, Ann Sanders, and Barbara Coffee.
They join seven other board members who are in the middle of their current terms.

Food Stamps on the Rise;
Stimulus Money Helps Local Hungry People
More than 125,000 people in Allegheny County now receive food stamps, according to newly released data by the Pa. Department of Public Welfare. Thanks to the April 1 increase in food stamp benefits that was part of the economic stimulus bill, food stamp benefits in Allegheny County alone totaled more than $16 million in April 2009 alone, up $2.7 million from the month before.

Save the Date! Wednesday October 21 is the 21st Annual Harvest Celebration Dinner
Global Food Activist and Author Raj Patel will be the guest speaker at the 21st Annual Harvest Celebration Dinner, returning to the Omni William Penn Hotel. Raj Patel is author of Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System. Patel is also a Fellow at the Institute of Food and Development Policy and a visiting scholar at Berkeley.
Our 2009 Seeds of Just Harvest Award will be presented to our long-time partners at the East End Food Cooperative, Pittsburgh’s only member-owned grocery store.Tickets will go on sale in early August.
